Nancy Mora was only 44 years old when she got the news. Her husband, Enrique, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. At the time, Enrique himself was only 58. Their boys were 11 and 13. With the shocking diagnosis, they went from children, to instant caregivers.
My name is Caroline Ster and I am studying journalism/public relations and psychology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In early July of this year, I began working as a Marketing Intern at Alzheimer’s San Diego.
You can see Kathleen Bade on FOX 5 San Diego every weeknight. She's a straight-shooting news anchor, keeping calm and cool no matter the story. If you're lucky, you saw her emcee last year's Walk4ALZ, where she shared her family's battle with dementia for the very first time.
For Walk4ALZ team captain Nancy Mora, our mission is very personal. Her husband, Enrique, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in March 2010, when their kids were just 11 and 13 years old.
Meet the Gomez-Poling-Torres family. They’re a feisty, loving, make-you-laugh-til-it-hurts kind of family – all four generations of them. It’s clear they don’t just love each other; they actually like each other, too.
Alzheimer's disease impacts many people, including many of the Alzheimer's San Diego staff. Our very own Marci Martin has become a top Walk4ALZ team captain in recent years, with this year being her third year as a team captain.
Jennifer Ebner, like many others around the county, has relied on the services provided at Alzheimer’s San Diego. She has gone through the fight with her own mother, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia, and passed away five years ago at the age of 59.
Walk4ALZ team captain Claudia Mazanec knows all too well what it's like to see a loved one pass away from Alzheimer's. She has lived through it not once, but twice.
Asking for help is not fun, easy or something that comes naturally to most of us. On a daily basis, I speak with people who are reaching out to Alzheimer’s San Diego for the first time.
