Life Before Alzheimer’s San Diego
Originally from North Carolina, Lisa Levan says she always loved visiting San Diego, and eventually made the leap to move out west. She joined the team in May of this year and felt the organization’s services aligned with the work she wanted to be doing in her career.
With a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Lisa was able to gain the skillset to work with individuals and families. On top of this, she also holds a certificate in Paralegal studies, which she notes has allowed her to operate better within organizations.
VITALZ Program & More
Lisa’s previous experiences range from working with survivors of domestic violence, consulting in dementia care studies, and more. She notes that these things have “helped [her] have a solid foundational base for helping others and learn new skills in a way [she] can quickly pivot to find solutions.” Lisa now oversees the VITALZ (Volunteers-In-Touch) program, which provides weekly socialization between people living alone with memory loss and volunteers, among other benefits. She is also part of the Clinical Services team, which includes helping individuals and families who call or come into our office for personalized support with their situations.
Lisa’s Perspective
“I am originally from a small town in North Carolina and looking back I can see there were no resources for dementia care, much less a discussion about it within the community. I am motivated to help others in thinking about how there is more awareness, services and research around dementia currently.” Lisa has caregiving experiences with multiple family members, and now continues to learn from the people who come to us for help, which in turn allows her to use that information to support our wonderful San Diego community.
