The 2024 Visionary Luncheon & Auction was held on May 10, 2024 on a lovely day in downtown San Diego. The University Club served as our hosts and provided incredible views of the skyline, San Diego Bay, Coronado, and more.
We started off the day with the silent auction, which went along drinks and a few small bites. The auction items included a variety of items ranging from surfboards and guitars to resort stays and 1 of 1 art pairings created by artists living with dementia and professionals artists. It was lovely seeing familiar faces that are involved with other aspects of our organization, or who we’ve had relationships with as donors or clients themselves. Guests then found their seats for the main program where we honored Wanda Smith, who for decades has led the charge in awareness and progress in regards to frontotemporal dementia (FTD). She began by speaking about how her mother lived with what they thought was Alzheimer’s disease, until neurologists found that her mother had the gene associated with frontotemporal dementia, not Alzheimer’s. Since those days in the 80’s, it has been her mission to spread information about the differences to Alzheimer’s and the services available to families impacted by the disease.
The program then proceeded to the live auction, where auctioneer Clint Bell playfully poked at familiar guests in attendance and had the room bidding over a trip to the French countryside, horse racing packages, and more. If you’d like to learn how to be part of our Visionary Circle, view this page. Thank you again to everyone who came out to the 2024 Visionary Luncheon & Auction, and we encourage you to register for our other events this year – Date with a Cure, Rides4ALZ, and of course, Walk4ALZ!
